“I’m sorry to let you know that your son has cancer.” No parent ever wants to hear a doctor share this diagnosis. Yet, this is what my wife and I were told just over a month ago when we learned that our 16 year-old son Zachary had Hodgkins Lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. “So now that you know the bad news, the good news is that this disease is very treatable and there is a 90% cure rate for patients who undergo chemotherapy and radiation.” Heartened by the good prognosis, we set out on a journey of healing with our son Zachary that is very familiar to anyone who has lived through chemotherapy with a friend or family member.
